Even if the DOCSIS standard used by your modem is not necessarily the most interesting one to read, it can have a major impact on the speed of your Internet.
The old standards are much slower than the new ones and can therefore slow down your work considerably.

If you have problems with the internet, it is therefore very important to know whether you need to update your residential gateway or not!
What is DOCSIS 2.0?
Let’s start by deviating from what the doxis means: DOCSIS stands for Cable Network Interface Specification. There were five versions of this standard: 1.0, 1.1, 2.0, 3.0 and the latest standard 3.1.
DOCSIS 2.0 was first published in 2001 and is now a fairly old standard. However, it is still used by some cable operators and is probably still in modems throughout the country.
DOCSIS offers up to 38 Mbps downstream and 27 Mbps upstream. Whether or not these speeds are achieved depends on a number of different factors, including the speeds offered by your provider.
Tell me about Doxis 3.0 (ET 3.1)
DOCSIS 3.0 is the standard first published in 2006, while DOCSIS 3.1 was first published in 2013. These two standards allow for a significant increase in data speeds and are therefore perfectly suited for the use of the modern Internet. Also, there are wow compatible modem too in the market.
The biggest improvement over DOCSIS 2.0 is that versions 3.0 and 3.1 make it possible to link channels so that two (or more) channels can be used for downloading or uploading. If you connect the channels together, your modem can double the available bandwidth for downloading.
While each channel separately delivered 38 Mbps downstream and 27 Mbps upstream, DOCSIS 3.0 was able to deliver over 160 Mbps downstream.
DOCSIS 3.1 enhances DOCSIS 3.0 by providing speeds of up to 10 Gbps downstream and 1 Gbps upstream. If you live in a region that supports DOCSIS 3.1, it is definitely a great idea to have a modem to use these speeds.

DOCSIS 2.0 vs. 3.0 – Do I need to upgrade my modem?
Although DOCSIS 3.0 is significantly better than DOCSIS 2.0, the decision to upgrade depends on several variables. You should first check if your Internet Service Provider actually supports DOCSIS 3.0 in your region. Although this is the case in most locations, there are still areas where only DOCSIS 2.0 is used, so there is no need to update the modem.
The next question you should ask yourself is whether or not you are paying for a service that requires DOCSIS 3.0. If your budget does not include high-speed internet, you may not need to upgrade to the latest version because the extra bandwidth is simply wasted.
However, if you pay for fast Internet access and use a DOCSIS 2.0 modem, your modem may limit the speed of your Internet connection. In this case, it would certainly be useful to upgrade the modem to DOCSIS 3.0 or DOCSIS 3.1.
